Information for Applicants

Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Primary) (Dumfries Campus)

This programme is a 1 year professional degree which will qualify you to teach in a primary school. Approved by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, this programme is benchmarked against the highest standards of excellence.

Information will be emailed to you by your interviewer before your interview date confirming the time of your interview. Please monitor your junk/spam folder for this email. 

Please have available a form of photographic identification (driving licence, passport, etc.)  that you will be asked to display to your interviewer.

Accepting and Scheduling Your Interview

Accepting your Invitation

You must accept this invitation on UCAS Track at www.ucas.com no later than 7 days prior to the interview.

If you have not updated UCAS Track to indicate your intention to attend your interview, it may not be possible to interview you.

Declining your Invitation

If you decide you no longer wish to be interviewed, please decline your interview on UCAS Track at www.ucas.com as soon as possible so that your slot can be offered to another candidate.

Applicants who do not decline on UCAS Track will be unsuccessful.

Re-scheduling your Interview

If you are unable to attend on the date offered, please contact us with your reasons for requesting a reschedule and we will do our best to accommodate you, however please note that an interview reschedule is not always guaranteed.

Interview Outcome

You will be notified of a successful or unsuccessful outcome of your interview via UCAS within 7 working days. If you do not hear from us within 7 working days, it means your application is still under consideration.

Dress Code

This is an interview for a professional degree programme and as such we would expect applicants to dress accordingly.

Interview Guidelines and Tasks

All interviews will take place online.

This is your chance to let us know why you want to apply for this programme and your views and thoughts on the role of the teacher in the 21st century. Following your presentation, there will be a set of questions for you to answer. We will expect you to refer to the Curriculum for Excellence.

Before the interview:

‘How do you see yourself contributing to education in Scotland as a primary teacher?’
  • Candidates should prepare a PowerPoint presentation, including no more than 3 power-point slides.

 

During the interview:

You will be asked to give your 5-minute presentation to our interviewers. This will be followed by a series of interview questions.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

If you are accepted to a teaching degree you must undertake a Criminal Convictions check under the PVG Scheme prior to enrolment. It is your responsibility to pay for the check. Details will be sent to you once you have accepted and confirmed your offer.
