Training and Support

New resources, new events

On 5th September 2023, we offered a session on 'Demystifying REF Impact' for researchers from all disciplines. The slides and recordings are available here:

Slides: Demystifying REF Impact: Research Staff

Recording

  • We deliver impact-related modules in the Researcher Development Programme, covering a general introduction to impact (how to examine your research and articulate an impact strategy for embedding), and introduction to knowledge exchange and public engagement. To request specific training please get in touch with Rose-Marie Barbeau, Head of Research Impact and Engagement (for staff) or Zara Gladman, Public & Community Engagement Advisor (for public and community engagement understanding, planning and evaluation).
  • We work with College Impact Officers to offer events and courses throughout the year such as Research Impact CafĂ© and surgeries addressing various aspects of knowledge exchange and research impact, and provide 1-2-1 support; all staff are welcome and we try to shape the content around feedback and suggestions received from attendees at previous events. These impact and knowledge exchange opportunities are advertised via email, mailing list (subscription requires VPN login), and on Twitter.
  • We provide 1-2-1 support for staff applying to bids for the Glasgow KE Fund, Impact Acceleration Accounts, and other supportive funding schemes. Please get in touch with Gordon Meiklejohn, Knowledge Exchange & Impact Manager, in the first instance. Support sessions will include relevant expertise from Colleges and from within Research & Innovation Services, where required (e.g. public engagement, IP and commercialisation, IAA managers, REF impact officers etc).
  • We deliver presentations to units, centres, and Schools aimed at encouraging staff and PGRs to capture and document non-academic engagement and collaborative work on the KE and Impact Repository, which is kept on Enlighten but is not publicly visible. It allows the creation of an impact record, storage of documentation that could serve as evidence of impact, links to research funding and publications. It also allows selected activities to display on University staff profile web pages to increase their online visibility. To request training please get in touch with Bhoomi Gor, Research Impact Adviser.
